Contest Rules

 

Scenic City Sing-Off is a fun vocal competition for Chattanooga-area singers ages 16 and up.

 

Registration & Video Auditions:

  1. All contestants must register via the Sign-Up form on sceniccitysingoff.com and pay a $25 entry fee.
    1. Contestants must be 16 years or older.
      1. Contestants under 18 years old must have parental consent to participate.
      2. Signed parental consent forms will be required and collected at the live audition on April 8, 2017.
    2. Solo participants only.
    3. No more than 100 contestants will be accepted to compete.
    4. The 100 max. contestants will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis.
  2. Scenic City Sing-Off will confirm registration and provide instructions for video audition upload.
  3. Contestants must upload a video audition to Scenic City Sing-Off by 11:59 pm on Friday, March 31.
    1. Contest is open to all vocal styles and genres.
    2. Audition and event performances must be in good taste. Lyrics or subject matter that Scenic City Sing-Off, in its sole discretion, deems inappropriate to a family-style audience will disqualify the entry.
    3. Scenic City Sing-Off reserves the right to have final say on appropriateness of final performance material.
    4. Scenic City Sing-Off retains all rights to audition videos submitted.
    5. Audition videos will be uploaded to YouTube.
    6. Audition videos may not exceed 5 minutes in length but must be at least 2 minutes in length.
    7. Audition videos must be your own, solo performance, and must be filmed live (i.e., no pre-recording, lip-syncing, auto-tuning, etc.).
    8. Contestants should introduce themselves in the audition video.
    9. Audition videos may only contain one song.
    10. Audition must be sung acapella.

 

Video Audition Elimination:

  1. A panel of three judges will select 18 video audition winners to move on to the live audition round.
  2. All contestants invited to participate in the live auditions will be notified via email no later than Friday, March 31, 2017.

 

Live Auditions:

  1. The 18 contestants chosen by the panel of judges must appear in person at the live auditions in order to be considered for the grand finale.  Contestants not appearing will not be eligible for the grand finale competition.
    1. The live auditions will be held at Baker Donelson, 633 Chestnut Street, 19th Floor, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37450 on Saturday, April 8.
    2. Contestants must perform the song they plan to use for the grand finale competition.
    3. Each contestant’s live audition shall not exceed 5 minutes.
    4. Live audition must be performed acapella.
  2. Contestants invited to participate in the live auditions will be required to provide proof of age at the live auditions.
  3. Contestants invited to participate in the live auditions will be asked to provide additional information and items to assist in promotion of the event (biographical data, headshot/photo, etc.). A list of specific requested information will be provided in advance of the live auditions.
  4. Scenic City Sing-Off reserves the right to divide or combine any auditions if necessary and to cancel any audition(s).

 

Live Audition Elimination:

  1. The panel of judges will select 9 total contestants to be invited to perform and compete at the grand finale competition on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at The Church on Main.
  2. All contestants will continue to vie for ‘likes’ on their YouTube videos through Friday, April 14 at 11:59 pm. At that time, the video with the most ‘likes’ will move on to the grand finale competition as the “Internet Favorite” contestant.
  3. The 9 contestants chosen by the panel of judges will be notified immediately following the live auditions on Saturday, April 8, 2017.
    1. Contestants must be present at the time the live audition winners are announced in order to move on to compete in the grand finale competition.

 

Finalists:

  1. Finalist contestants must perform live at The Church on Main on Thursday, May 4, 2017 to be eligible to win.
  2. No later than Wednesday, April 26, contestant must provide the following to Scenic City Sing-Off:
    1. Music track (CD or mp3 file) of the song to be performed at the finale. (Song may not exceed five minutes).
    2. Complete, printed lyrics of the song to be performed at the finale.
    3. Failure to provide music by the April 26 deadline will disqualify the contestant.

 

Grand Finale Competition:

  1. Contestants will perform one song for which they will be judged. Voice presentation must be a live performance by the artist.
  2. Instrumental or audio backing track CDs for the grand finale competition must be provided by entrants to Scenic City Sing-Off no later than Wednesday, April 26.
  3. Entire live performance may not exceed five minutes. Timing begins with the first word or note.
  4. Contestants must participate in a soundcheck at The Church on Main on Thursday, May 4, between 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm.
  5. All attire shall be selected and provided by the contestant.
  6. No animals are permitted.
  7. Contestants may only perform the song that was submitted to Scenic City Sing-Off by April 26.  No substitutions will be allowed.
    1. Event performances must be in good taste. Lyrics or subject matter that Scenic City Sing-Off, in its sole discretion, deems inappropriate to a family-style audience will disqualify the entry.
  8. Contestants must arrive to the grand finale competition in their stage attire. Dressing rooms will not be provided.
  9. Instructions will be given at the beginning of the competition and/or during soundcheck; all performers must enter and exit as directed prior to the performance.

 

Judging:

  1. Judges for the grand finale competition will be local dignitaries, celebrities or professionals.
  2. Performance will be evaluated by the following categories: ability, appearance/stage presence, and overall assessment.
  3. Performance will be scored using a scale of 1 to 10 in each category, with 10 being the highest score.
  4. In the event of a tie, the first tiebreaker shall be the highest number of points given in the ability category. The second tiebreaker shall be the highest number of points awarded in the appearance/stage presence category. The third tiebreaker shall be by a secret vote of judges based on overall performance, style, and impact.

 

Awards:

  1. Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the grand finale competition on May 4, 2017, at The Church on Main.
  2. Monetary gifts will be awarded to the first prize winner and the people’s choice winner.
    1. The first prize winner will be awarded a $1,000 cash prize.
    2. The people’s choice winner will be awarded a $250 cash prize.

 

General:

Scenic City Sing-Off shall be the sole authority in resolving all disputes and may disqualify any

contestant at any level of the competition for failure to comply with the rules and regulations. Such decisions are final and binding.
